Electricity Compare combines official contract sources, the spot market, Fingrid system data and the user’s own consumption history.
Contract prices are sourced primarily from electricity companies’ official pages. ENTSO-E Transparency Platform is the primary spot source and Elering is the fallback. Fingrid Open Data supplies Finland’s consumption, production, wind-power and consumption-forecast data.
For fixed contracts, annual cost includes energy price, the first 12 months of monthly fees and recognised campaigns. Spot electricity does not receive a personal annual-cost estimate without a real consumption profile.
Only sufficiently fresh offers with verified or source_only status are public. A suspicious change is held for review and never silently replaces the current price.
A logged-in user can import Datahub consumption at 15- or 60-minute resolution. The historical test shows what the same actual consumption would have cost at realised spot prices.
The public comparison works without an account. An account is required only for personal My electricity data and synchronisation. API keys are never sent to the browser.
Price history, futures and market data must be kept separate from forecasts. The service does not claim to know where electricity prices will move next.
